At the International AIDS Conference in Washington, Sir Elton John admitted that his promiscuous past could have killed him.
Using music pal Freddie Mercury and actor Rock Hudson as examples, his speech was brutally honest and candid.
Here's what he said:
“I should be dead – six foot under in a wooden box. I should have contracted HIV in the 1980s and died in the 1990s, just like Freddie Mercury, just like Rock Hudson.
"Every day I wonder, how did I survive?”
So scary, but Elton, we're so glad you ARE alive.
You're doing so much for the cause.
If you had died, you wouldn't be urging the world to change their perception of AIDS:
“We have to replace shame with love. We have to replace stigma with compassion.”
We love you, Elton, and are so happy we have you out there fighting for the world!
