Greek Athlete Makes Racist Joke, Dropped From Olympics

Seriously, do people not know how to use Twitter?

It seems like common sense that you should not use it for horrible things, like sending nude pics, anti-gay rants, and racist slurs.

Voula Papachristou is in that last camp.

She tweeted something pretty racist, and because of it, she will no longer be competing in the Olympics with Greece!

Here's what she tweeted:

"With so many Africans in Greece, the West Nile mosquitoes will be getting home made food!!!"

Awful.

Of course, she's scrambling to apologize — but it's too little too late.

Here's what she said anyway:

“I would like to express my heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate and tasteless joke I published on my personal Twitter account. I am very sorry and ashamed for the negative responses I triggered, since I never wanted to offend anyone, or to encroach human rights."

Did… did she just apologize for other people responding negatively?

Obviously that's not the problem here!

She's one person we're glad we won't have to watch come the Olympics!

Bravo, Greece, for taking the right action!
