Hope Solo, women's soccer star/Olympian, has a new autobiography coming out… and it's gonna be good.
She speaks very openly about her childhood and her criminal father who was serving a prison sentence for embezzlement when she was conceived. Her mother had visited her father on a conjugal visit.
"It’s a complicated thing, knowing how much pain my father caused in my life and the lives of others whom I love, yet still holding love for him in my heart."
She grew up with him always being a bad father or husband, one time even "kidnapping" her and her brother by going on a spontaneous vacation to Seattle. He always did love her though, he just didn't know how to be there for her.
After that she didn't see her father for ten years.
She eventually ran into him while walking through a Seattle park one day and they reconnected.
A little before her first World Cup, she made plans to fly her dad out to NY to be with her — but he died of a heart attack before making the trip.
She was devastated but was still thankful for what little time they had together.
"If I hadn’t made peace with him later in my life, I’d still be bitter and angry."
Her book, Solo: A Memoir of Hope, goes on sale August 14th.
We'd totally read it!
