We were so pumped when we heard that the NFL was finally letting a woman be a ref.
Just think about how Shannon Eastin feels if we're pumped!
”I believe I am ready. I'm a realistic person and I know what is realistic for me. I am not going to play football. I feel it is realistic for me to officiate. I make myself ready for any opportunity that comes my way. I will come in with my eyes wide open.”
We're glad this is happening, even though it could be under better circumstances — Shannon is a replacement for officials who are on lock out.
So not only does Shannon have to face the pressure of being the first woman, but she also has the added pressure of being viewed as a 'scab.'
Here's what she said about that:
”Hopefully there is some understanding on their part I have got to do what's in the best interest of myself, just as they have to do what is in their best interest.
”There's been a lot of talk that the NFL is wanting to bring in a female and, quite frankly, this could be the opportunity. I felt it is something I needed to do, make that step and see what comes from there. I believe it is important when you step on the field to have a presence and a professionalism to know what you are doing. I think knowing I am a female in a man's world, I always put more pressure on myself. I know what I signed up for, and that what I do is magnified.”
Well, we hope once you get into the swing of the game that all that pressure disappears.
We definitely think you'll do fine!
Just don't make any bad calls like men are known to do! LOLz!
