Sometimes to find the answers to the really tough questions, you just have to ask.
That's why we've been teaming up with the Pasadena Recovery Center and having them field any questions our beautiful readers have about addiction and overcoming addiction.
Here's the latest question:
My mom is drinking too much, what can I do?
It is very difficult to confront a loved one when there is a problem of any sort. Alcohol abuse, however, is the most difficult. Often times, it requires a professional intervention.
An alcoholic needs to acknowledge that they have a disease. A practicing alcoholic is often so delusional that they are not even aware of how sick they are. They quickly forget about the blackouts, wild displays of rage and the pain they inflict on their families and friends.
If you feel that your mom drinks too much don't take it into your own hands — consult a professional.
We totally agree with this. There are ways to avoid the downfalls of personally confronting a loved one, and one of the best ways is to have help from a professional. At the very least they can coach you on how to approach the subject!
