Gabby Douglas is one seriously ahmayzing person!
She overcame so much to make Olympic history by becoming the first African-American to win gold in women's all-around gymnastics and the only woman to do so while also winning a team gold!
The 4'11", 16-year-old wasn't always the super confident champion we're sure she is today.
She almost quit gymnastics just half a year ago!
She had to move away from her mom and sisters to go live with strangers in Iowa so she could train with legendary gymnastics coach Liang Chow.
When her mom visited her after 16 months of being away from home, Gabby said:
"I wanted to go home with my mom. But she told me to keep fighting."
You have to suffer to reach greatness… and all that hard work DEF paid off!
"You have hard days in the gym and ask, 'Is this really worth it?' And when you're standing on the podium, you say, 'Wow, this really was.'"
We can only imagine what that must've felt like.
Congrats so so so much on getting the cover of PEOPLE and for winning your gold medals!!!
