Only hours after the Olympics were over, a female shot putter from Belarus was stripped of her gold medal!

Oh no!

Nadzeya Ostapchuk was disqualified after being caught doping!

The gold medal now goes to Valerie Adams of New Zealand, who is now the Olympic champion the second time in a row.

The IOC said that that Nadzeya tested positive from steroids before and after winning shot put.

An IOC spokesman said:

"Catching cheats like this sends a message to all those who dope that we will catch them."

Track and field's governing body might even place a two-year ban on Nadzeya from competing in the sport.

Adams, the woman bumped up to gold, said:

"I am speechless with this news. It is taking me some time to take this in. It is huge and I am absolutely thrilled of course. It makes me extraordinarily proud as a New Zealander. It is also encouraging for those athletes, like myself who are proud to compete cleanly, that the system works and doping cheats are caught."

We're so glad that people like Nadzeya are caught so that the real gold can go where it belongs.

It's just sad Valeria Adams was cheated out of her chance to stand at the medal ceremony and hear her national anthem.

Cheaters never prosper.
