This might actually come as a surprise, but a new study found that married women might drink actually more than previously assumed.
Often times, more than their husbands.
Some women in the study said they didn't drink at all until they met their husbands!
The study looked at a random sample of 5,000 people over the course of 47 years!
They found that people's individual behaviors tend to adjust in order to match the behaviors of the people they spend most of their time with.
A sociology professor said:
"People tend to do what others in the same flock do, if you spend more time with individuals that have a higher incidence of using drugs or alcohol you will develop similar habits. People tend to engage in the behaviors of people they surround themselves with."
Single men tend to drink much more than single women, so when they get married, their drinking levels balance each other out.
Men tend to drink less and women tend to drink more.
So married women drink more than they used to, but men might still drinking more volume overall.
Either way, less drinking is always better so feel free to just not drink so much!
