This seems all too familiar.
The NHL and the Player's Association have until September 15th to work out a deal or else the season could be shortened or just not played altogether.
Just like back in 2004 when there was no hockey played at all!
Money is the biggest issue, as it always is.
They're not only arguing where to set the salary cap but also the NHL wants to limit contract length and make a set minimum number of years a player must play before they can become a free agent.
The Player's Association is obviously not happy.
If the NHL has its way and limits contracts to only five years like it wants, with equal amounts of money paid each year, it effectively gets rid of signing bonuses.
Also, right now players get 57% of the revenue brought in by the NHL. The owners want to slash that to 43%!
So obviously there are going to need to be some pretty big concessions on both sides or else say goodbye to hockey for another season!
