This is fab news!
The NFL has just pledged $30 million to NIH for medical research! NIH (National Institute of Health) is considered one of the world's foremost medical research centers.
"We hope this grant will help accelerate the medical community's pursuit of pioneering research to enhance the health of athletes past, present and future. This research will extend beyond the NFL playing field and benefit athletes at all levels and others, including members of our military."
We're hoping (and we're sure they are too) that this will go towards research on brain injury — seeing as that's a scary and common event in football.
Here's what NIH had to say:
"We are grateful for the NFL's generosity. The research to be funded by this donation will accelerate scientific discovery that will benefit athletes and the general public alike."
We'd love to see this kind of generosity become widespread — which organization will step up next??
