Yeesh! Stay away from Yosemite for a while!
This is probably a bummer for those people who have vacation plans!
A recent outbreak of a rodent sourced hantavirus outbreak in Yosemite National Park has led an extension of warnings, and a rise in the death toll.
The warning went out to 22,000 visitors who may have been exposed to the mouse-borne disease as the number of confirmed cases grew to eight and a THIRD death was confirmed!
More specifically, U.S. officials said that up to 10,000 people were probably at risk of contracting hantavirus pulmonary syndrome after staying at a place called Curry Village lodging area — between June and August.
Even worse: 2,500 of those people live OUTSIDE of the U.S.!
While the hantavirus has never been passed from human to human, there is no cure for the lung disease. It kills over a third of those infected, but early detection through blood tests greatly increases survival rates.
Stay safe, guys!
