Not hot as in rad, but hot as in "oh shizz we're burning alive!!"
It's true, and official: Death Valley is now the record holder for the hottest temp ever recorded on Earth!
It wasn't right!
The temperature of 136 degrees for that area at that time is just plain incorrect!
That makes the #2 the #1, which is the 134-degree reading measured on July 10, 1913, in Death Valley, Calif.
It's pretty cool that scientists can more accurately analyze weather records now, 90 years later, than right in the moment in the past!
So can they be sure a 1913 reading is more accurate than a 1922 reading? Wouldn't the tech be better in 1922?
Apparently so, according to this scientist:
"We accept that Death Valley temperature extreme record. Obviously if any new materials on it surface, we will be prepared to open an investigation, but at this time all available evidence points to its legitimacy."
Congrats, California… we guess! Ha!
