Dr. Shaquille O'Neal has broken a lot of backboards. Now he wants to break some bad habits.
Shaq has joined with the Century Council in an effort to stop binge drinking- and its harmful consequences- on college campuses across the country.
After a national study found that Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students consumed alcohol in largely different patterns from the national average, the Century Council knew they needed a new approach.
President and CEO Ralph Blackman says:
"We wanted to understand the differences, if any, in binge drinking behaviors among students on HBCU campuses versus other colleges and universities, and we found some. With the new insights that we gained from the recent research into binge drinking on HBCU campuses and the creativity of Shaquille O’Neal, we know we can make an impact."
Shaq can't wait to put his massive foot down to curb reckless drinking. He says:
"Binge drinking on college campuses is dangerous and has got to stop. Strategies to combat it need to be more effective on a national level, which is why I am proud to lend my support to this effort by working with Morehouse College and The Century Council. I am sure that the campaign we develop will be creative and is going to have a large impact. It’s exciting work."
Our guess for Shaq's first move against binge drinking? He's going to dunk on it. Hey, it's a simple strategy, but if it ain't broke… LOLz!
