Dwyane Wade recently released a book called A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball.
In it, he talks about how important he realized fatherhood was, not only once he became a father, but in how it shaped him as a child.
His mother, who overcame her addiction, said it was tough to hear about her life through her son's eyes, saying:
"My precious boy saw me with the needle in my arm. There were a lot of things that we had not talked about that they had seen."
Dwyane's older sister took him from his mother, to live with his father.
"My father stepped up. I'm successful today because my father stepped up."
His mom is now clean and living drug-free as a paster in Chicago!
You hear that? Dwyane is the man he is today because of his father!
To all the neglectful or absent fathers out there… step it up!
