Early this morning, representatives from the NHL Players Association made their way to the NHL headquarters
to beat each other into submission.
The NHL and the NHLPA were meeting to try and resolve their issues and end the lockout.
Today should have been the opening game, so hopefully everyone is realizing how bad this whole lockout is.
An NHLPA rep said:
"I think we're making progress in a number of the areas that were discussed, which include health and safety, drug testing issues, medical care. They were good discussions. It's a shame that they are going on in the midst of a lockout when we could be doing it while we're playing, or we could've been doing it a month ago or two months ago."
We completely agree. We have no idea why they can't be playing the season while having these talks.
Two of the biggest problem areas are around how player health/injuries are handled and the distribution of revenue.
It seems like their wheels are just spinning though.
An NHL rep said:
"You often don't know whether you're making progress until you look back on it. We were just sort of discussing the overall status of the bargaining and where the parties are."
So they're having meetings to talk about the meetings they're having?
Jeez, how about some progress people?!
Hockey fans, we feel for you and hope it's over soon.
