We previously mentioned that a fungal meningitis outbreak has happened because of drugs from a contaminated pharmacy.
So far, 15 people are dead and at least 200 others are sick.
The FDA is widening its search for the cause of all the meningitis, believing other drugs might be causing the problems.
An infectious diseases expert said:
"We were concerned that there might be other medications that might be contaminated coming from that pharmacy. The FDA has given us a heads up that that looks to be the case. We'll have to notify many more patients across the country that they may have been exposed to a fungal infection. I think we're still in the middle. We're nowhere near the end of this problem. And we will see more patients reporting in ill and we'll have to treat many more going forward."
So apparently now it's not just the one steroid shot, it could be several different medications made at the pharmacy.
Tennessee has been hit the hardest with 53 cases of meningitis and six deaths!
Seems like the FDA is scrambling to find all of the drugs to recall.
Hopefully they figure this all out soon. Things are getting scary.
