Cheerleading used to be about chanting on the sidelines and maybe jumping around a little bit.
Nowadays, it's about huge human pyramids and big guys throwing little girls really high into the air.
As it has evolved, it's become more dangerous and the American Academy of Pediatrics has said that it should be made an official sport.
An author of the new policy and a sports medicine specialist said:
"Not everyone is fully aware of how cheerleading has evolved over the last couple of decades. It used to be just standing on the sidelines and doing cheers and maybe a few jumps."
Now that cheerleading is more intense, there are literally tens of thousands of ER visits from cheerleading related injuries in girls age 6 to 22 every year!
Many of these injuries are pretty severe in nature.
Cheerleading is def a sport and should be treated like one!
