Sharon Osbourne is talking about her double mastectomy, and how she has absolutely no regrets. We don't think anyone who gets a mastectomy should EVER have regrets!
Interestingly enough, Sharon had the procedure done before she even got breast cancer. In fact, it was when she found out that she had the gene that raised her chances of getting it. Mix that with having a different cancer before, and she didn't want to risk it!
Here's what she said:
"As soon as I found out I had the breast cancer gene, I thought, 'The odds are not in my favor'. I've had cancer before and didn't want to live under that cloud. I decided to take everything off and had a double mastectomy. For me, it was a no-brainer."
That cancer she had was colon cancer in 2002.
"[It was] a decision I made that's got rid of this weight that I was carrying around. I want to be around a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl. I didn't even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way, I just wanted to live without that fear."
We say this is a fab reason — and an incredibly strong thing to do.
Not everyone has the money to devote to an elective preventative procedure like this, but we hope that seeing her make this choice helps women embrace having to do it, regardless of the reason!
So fab, Sharon!
