Ready to have your minds blown?
There's a new HIV vaccine being tested right now that has ZERO adverse side effects. Put that vaccine in your prevention pipe and smoke it!
Actually don't, smoking is bad. Ha!
These beautiful scientists from the magical land of Canada have been working tirelessly to develop the world's first HIV vaccine, and by creating one that boosts immunity while having no bad side effects is a HUGE deal. The vaccine is based on a genetically modified, dead virus.
It can now progress to the next stage of testing and could be commercially available in five years. FIVE YEARS. We're going to be seeing the end of a lot of scary things in our lifetime, folks.
The vaccine is called SAV001-H, and is being developed by Dr. Chil-Yong Kang and his team. The now completed first-phase trial was a randomized, observer-blinded, placebo-controlled study involving infected men and women aged 18 to 50.
Here's what happened:
Results from the trials showed that patients experienced no adverse effects — no local reactions from the injections, or any signs, symptoms, or reactions to potential toxicities. Given that the early results have shown safety and tolerability in humans, Sumagen and the Western researchers are now ready to embark upon the next phase of clinical trials to study the vaccine's immunity and effectiveness.
What's cool is that it's killed whole HIV-a virus, just like the vaccines for polio, influenza, rabies and hepatitis A. Instead of killing it by radiation, heat or chemicals, though, this strand was genetically engineered to be harmless… and can be produced in LARGE quantities!
Let's hope the next two phases go smoothly — it's about time we kick this virus's ass! Woo!
