Giuliana Olmos, a sophomore at USC, plays on the women's tennis team.
She wanted to do something to make a difference in her community, so she organized an inter-sport tennis tournament to raise money for charity.
Then she learned one of her teammate's moms had breast cancer.
"I wanted to bring the 600 athletes at USC together since we don't see a lot of them. And everyone likes to play tennis, so I thought of the idea. I didn't think much about it until I learned that (my teammate's) mom got diagnosed (with breast cancer), and it just clicked."
Almost 100 athletes attended!
Though due to short notice to the NCAA, the team couldn't collect money from the event because of their strict compliance rules.
Apparently the NCAA won't make an exception, even if it means stopping people from donating money at a cancer benefit!
Regardless, they raised awareness and had a great time doing it!!
Way to go, Giuliana.
