Most of the time, the people who are getting tested for HIV are those who are at risk.
But the the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) believe that everyone should be tested routinely!
If HIV screening becomes part of a regular check-up, it will mean tons of more undiagnosed cases of the disease being caught in earlier, more easily treatable stages!
Even though a doctor ordering an HIV test is as easy as ordering a cholesterol test, it doesn't happen too often.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that everyone ages 13 to 64 get at least one test a year!
Less than half of adults under 65 have ever been tested.
It could be awkward for people to ask their doctor for an HIV test because normally tests are taken by gay and bisexual men or intravenous drug users.
If getting an HIV test becomes routine, it can help take the stigma away!
