A new study from King's College in London has found that smoking basically rots your brain.
Everyone already knows smoking is bad for your lungs, teeth, skin, basically everything.
But this new research of 8,800 people over the age of 50 found that many things we do affect our mind just as much as our bodies.
"We all know smoking, a high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and a high BMI [Body Mass Index] is bad for our heart. This research adds to the huge amount of evidence that also suggests they can be bad for our head too."
What's good news is these are things we can control to some extent.
Heart attack and stroke risk are increased with "cognitive decline."
Know what helps decline or "rot" your brain??
Smoking! But you can decrease your risk of cognitive decline!
The Alzheimer's Society continued:
"One in three people over 65 will develop dementia but there are things people can do to reduce their risk. Eating a balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, getting your blood pressure and cholesterol checked and not smoking can all make a difference."
So just do what you already know how to do!
Eat healthy, exercise, don't smoke!
It's as simple as just leading a healthier lifestyle!
