Add this to the list of fantastic ideas!
DrinkSavvy is currently seeking funds on Indiegogo to produce a cup that changes appearance from clear to striped red when a drink has rape drugs present. It sucks these have to exist, but hey, we'll take cool scientific solutions to awful problems any day.
The best part is DrinkSavvy's plan: they want to make their products available online, while also providing them free to selected rape crisis centers. They also want to convince bars, clubs, and other establishments to use their products as an easy way to raise their safety standards. We think that DrinkSavvy should be proud to have their idea everywhere, even if means they aren't the only ones providing it in the end — for the greater good. We can't imagine only one company supplying everyone!
In the video (above) the whole process is discussed — and shows how the cups change to have a red strip if they're dangerous.
We're sure that awful predators will find a way around them somehow, but until then (and even after, with how many dumb people there are out there), it really does seem like this could help. It's a temporary solution to a massive problem, but it's better than nothing!
