Amir Johnson plays for the Toronto Raptors, though probably not for the next few games!
Amir got EJECTED from the game after touching the ref's ball, mouthing off, then THROWING his mouthguard at the ref's back!
That's one crazy string of events!
While we totally thing Amir was being immature, we also think that refs shouldn't be so sensitive. Did you get your feelings hurt? Need to posture yourself and eject a player from the game?
Seriously, the ejection was so quick — whatever happened to technicals? Johnson said he has a habit of rubbing the ball before handing it to the ref during free throws, and claimed nothing much was said.
Even CBSSports can see Amir's side of it:
"Not to condone Johnson's actions, but sometimes you can at least see where the players are coming from in their frustrations with officials. Why wouldn't Jones give him the ball? That's a pretty standard practice thing at the free throw line. The one thing players won't stand for when it comes to officials is not being fair. And likely in Johnson's point of view, Jones was singling him out and showing him up."
Amir DID apologize after the game, recognizing it was out of character for him:
"I think it was just really childish. It was something that didn't need to happen. I lost my cool and I apologize on my part."
Check it out (above) and YOU decide if it was the right call!
