We always knew beef had risks, especially after hearing about pink slime, but after the Kansas City Star closely investigated the meat, we have become even more turned off by this icky edible!
The meat industry has been claiming that meat is safer than ever, but once the news source revealed that they found Fecal Contamination in beef, there's no way we can believe them.
The Star reported what was found at one of Tyson's beef plants, and we must say, it's NOT pretty:
"Massive fecal contamination, multiple carcasses with varying degrees of fecal contamination, periods of very significant fecal, ingesta and abscess contamination [and] a piece of trimmed fat approximately 14 inches long with feces the length of it ,fecal contamination …was so great…couldn’t keep up."
EWWWW! That's so NASTY!
And what makes matters worse is the fact that the beef industry uses mechanical tenderizing techniques, which steer E. coli away from the middle of the beef, and as a result, make it harder for the virus to be killed off while it's being cooked.
Plus, the animals used for the meat are fed drugs that are created to make the beef processing easier on plants, but are unhealthy for humans.
We wish this wasn't true or legal, but when the USDA is pulling in a whole bunch of $$$, then it's gonna be kind of tough to take them down!!
