Obama Says It's Time For A 'Conversation' About Federal Pot Laws

President Barack Obama Marijuana Pot Law Conversation

President Barack Obama has a tough decision ahead.

The United States says marijuana is against the law, but Colorado and Washington say it'a legal there. So what is a POTUS to do? Obama says:

"This is a tough problem, because Congress has not yet changed the law. I head up the executive branch; we're supposed to be carrying out laws.

And so what we're going to need to have is a conversation about, how do you reconcile a federal law that still says marijuana is a federal offense and state laws that say that it's legal?"

So will he keep enforcing the federal law, raiding local distributors who are complying with their states' laws?

Or will he take the high road and let the states decide for themselves if they want to allow- and tax- the plant within their borders? He says:

"It does not make sense from a prioritization point of view for us to focus on recreational drug users in a state that has already said under state law that's legal."

It sounds to us like he is leaning toward the latter. But we're guessing he's hoping he won't have to make that decision for long.

Congress actually has the ability to fix the problem by amending the federal law to give states the right to choose.

Unfortunately for the Prez, anyone who thinks Congress is going to solve their problems is probably a legal resident of Colorado or Washington, if you catch our drift!
