Budweiser is a pretty well known beer brand.
It's known all over the world!
But in some parts of the world, if you order a Budweiser you might get a full bodied beer from a small brewer in the Czech Republic.
That's because Anheuser-Busch and Budejovicky Budvar have been both selling "Budweiser" beer for over 100 years!!
In 1939 there was a global settlement between the two companies that gave Anheuser-Busch sole rights to the name in all American territories north of Panama.
That didn't last for very long. There have been 124 disputes between the two companies between 2000 and 2011 alone… and the Czech company won 88 of them!
There is one place where they both sell Bud under the same name: Britain.
A court ruled consumers were smart enough to be able to tell the difference between the two beers.
Can't we all just get along??
