We previously mentioned that when you get a gel manicure, you could be exposing yourself to carcinogenic UV rays!
To get the gel to dry, you bake your hands under those powerful UV lights for several minutes, exposing yourself to the ultraviolet radiation!
And it'd barely even raise your risk!
That means a person would have to get one gel mani every week for the next 250 years. (We don't see that happening anytime soon…)
The reason that specific UV light isn't so dangerous is because those gel mani lights use narrowband UVB rays, the same kind used to treat skin conditions like psoriasis.
So no, they're nothing like mini tanning beds for your hands.
Though if you're still worried and don't believe us we have the perfect solution… how about putting on a little sunscreen on your hands before going??
We bet you've got a lotion in your bathroom with at least 15 SPF right now!
This is great news for all you gel mani fans out there! One less thing to worry about!
