If you're hiding your anger or sadness, one day it will just all spill over and you will just die right there.
JK! But repressing those emotions WILL cut years off your life!! Such fab news for those who love to yell and rant! LOLz!
In this new study, they looked at 6,000+ people. It's no small study. They found that those who internalised their anxiety suffered from raised pulse, and that those who are 'hot tempered' live longer! Over time this results in high blood pressure and an increased chance of developing a wide range of illnesses, from coronary heart disease to cancer and kidney damage. So yeah, get all that stuff off your chest asap!
‘These people are distinguished by the way that they attempt to conceal outward signs of fear, and also by their defensive behaviour. They avoid risks and always seek a high level of control over themselves and their surroundings. Repressors are distinguished by the way that they attempt to conceal outward signs of fear, and also by their defensive behaviour. For instance, when exposed to a stressful task they exhibit a higher heart rate and pulse ratio than non-repressors and show other objective signs of stress and anxiety.’
So does it suck completely to be a 'repressor'?
Nope — but it most definitely is not worth it! Apparently repressors are able to recover from a range of conditions! It's because of how disciplined repressors are, and how motivated they are to adapt their lifestyles to get better.
Are U a repressor??
