Well, this is one way to make people healthier, we suppose.

Even though we don't really agree with it!

If you're overweight and British, you might be seeing your healthcare benefits cut if you don’t complete a doctor-prescribed exercise regimen. These public policy proposals are being considered in the London area of Westminster. Whatever happened to letting people make their own decisions, good or bad?

The proposals are intended to be part of a massive cost-savings plan for when local council governments control of more than $3.25 billion in public money that formerly went to Britain’s national health service for public health campaigns. So, you know, it's completely motivated by money, and not really health.

They describe it as a "win-win" though!

How would the know you're doing what you're supposed to be doing though? According to the source:

'The group suggests using smart cards to monitor how much exercise an individual who’s been told to work out more is getting, and varying their subsidized housing and tax payments to either reward or “incentivize” them based on how much exercise they do.'

Incentives are a FAB idea, don't get us wrong, but we think it should never dip into punishment! Plus, tracking someone like that is pretty creepy.

Plus, why should the jobless and the overweight be the easy target for councils looking to save money?
