This was gonna happen sooner or later!
Chicago's City Councilman Ed Burke is concerned with the health risks energy drinks pose to people, so in hopes to save his community, he proposed a ban on the sale of the overly caffeinated drinks, which include 5-hour Energy, Monster, Red Bull and others.
Burke's projected law reads:
"No person shall sell, give away, barter, exchange or otherwise furnish any energy drink. Researchers found that these energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine and warned of dangerous, even life threatening, effects on blood pressure, heart rate and brain function."
Crazy thing is, Ed is not the first Chicago native to propose an ordinance like this.
About a month ago, Health Committee Chairman George Cardenas proposed a ban to stop selling energy drinks to minors.
However, the powerful councilman wants to ban the sell of energy drinks to EVERYONE… and wants the forbiddance to not only happen in Chicago, but to occur everywhere in the states.
If the law does pass, there will be a $100 to $500 fine for each time a drink is sold.
Dang, that's pretty hefty!!
