Listen — around here, we like Sheryl Crow. We think she does a lot of good in the world, and her music is known everywhere.
We were, however, firmly in the camp of "how could she NOT know" when it comes to Lance Armstrong and his web of cheating and lies. We mean, they WERE together during the heat of it all.
Now we're hearing that yes, she was indeed aware of it, despite having denied it. She was actually named twice in affidavits submitted to the United States Anti Doping Association which blew the whistle on the cheater.
Apparently Lance had tried to ask an ex-teammate to lie — and it happened right in front of Sheryl. This is according to former U.S. Postal Service teammate Frankie Andreu, whom Lance talked to around 2004 in a bid to persuade him to convince his wife Betsy to sign a statement retracting her claim that Armstrong told doctors treating him for cancer that he’d taken steroids, human growth hormone, cortisone and EPO.
The Andreus have insisted they were in the Indiana hospital room in 1996 when Armstrong made the confession. Here's what Frankie said:
"After that, Lance called me to his room to discuss the situation. He told me that Bill Stapleton (Armstrong’s agent) wanted to talk to me about the hospital room and have my wife sign a statement of support for Lance saying the hospital incident did not happen.
“His girlfriend at the time, Sheryl Crow, was in the room and I felt uncomfortable talking about this in front of her so I did not say much."
She has never spoken publicly about any of this, and yet the Wall Street Journal has claimed two sources have said she knew a whole lot about everything!!
Maybe our views on Sheryl's integrity are shifting a little bit…
