Just stop lying, Lance Armstrong! You took the right step, but you just couldn't come clear on everything, could you??
First we talked about the major possibility that Lance lied to Oprah about not doping after 2005 — probably because the statute of limitations hasn't run out on those cases.
Now, we're hearing that Lance lied about not offering the USADA a shady donation in the range of $200,000 to $250,000. Here's what Lance said:
“Certainly I had no knowledge of that. But I’ve asked around. Did anybody? Not true.”
That's not what Terry Madden, who was the USADA’s CEO from 2000-2007, has to say about it. Apparently an Armstrong rep approached the USADA’s then-general counsel, Travis Tygart, with the offer:
“Then, 10 seconds later, because of our ethics, I told Travis to turn it down. We called back that representative and gave them our decision immediately. [It was] very, very strange and it was such an easy decision for us. It’s very clear, we cannot accept gifts from people we’re either currently testing or would be testing in the future.”
What's the point of "coming clean" if you're just gonna still be dirty afterwards? Would you only wash the wheels of a car and not the rest of the body? Nope! Ha!
Oh, and if you haven't seen our extensive coverage of Lance's confessions…
