Sharing a picture alongside the NYPD, Miz Quigley penned:
There are two new studies that are looking at the link between concussions and depression.
It's been a hot button issue in professional sports, especially in the NFL in the wake of the Junior Seau suicide.
So the studies picked a very specific group to study… 34 retired NFL players!
The depression wasn't only in their mood or cognitive abilities… it was physical too.
The other side of all this is that just because you get a concussion, doesn't mean you become depressed.
Many players suffer multiple concussions during their careers and never wind up with depression symptoms.
Though some with depression symptoms didn't even know they were depressed! A doctor involved in both studies said:
"A lot of these players didn’t even recognize that the symptoms that they had were depression because they weren’t crying."
Seems like the NFL needs to work better at making sure their players get the care they need, because they don't often know they need help!
We really hope they figure this out because it's just so sad that they give everything while out there on the field… and some never get it back.
