Chicken Wing Shortage For The Super Bowl?!

We just previously mentioned that chicken wings stock was expected to hit a record high because of the Super Bowl.

Now it seems like chicken wings may be in such high demand that they won't be easy to find on game day!

Due to the high cost of corn and feed, chicken wing production has decreased.

So what happens when you add decreased production with an increased demand??

A shortage!

The chief economist and market analyst at the Washington, D.C.-based National Chicken Council (yes, that's a real position) said:

"Chicken companies produced about 1 percent fewer birds last year, due in large part to record high corn and feed prices. Corn makes up more than two-thirds of chicken feed and corn prices hit an all-time high in 2012, due to two reasons: last summer’s drought and pressure from a federal government requirement that mandates 40 percent of our corn crop be turned into fuel in the form of ethanol. Simply put, less corn equals higher feed costs, which means fewer birds produced."

The organization thinks that about 1.23 billion wings will be eaten this Super Bowl weekend!

What's crazy is that's 12.3 million less than last year!

Maybe head out to the store a week early, buy a bunch of wings then freeze 'em!

Frozen wings are better than no wings is something someone might have once said. LOLz!
