Wow! This is AH-mazies!
Sir Elton John has been one of the strongest leaders in funding for HIV and AIDS research for the past two decades… And now, after 21 years, The Elton John AIDS Foundation has announced that they've reached the historic milestone of raising more than $300 million.
The charity focuses on HIV/AIDS research as well as prevention, treatment, advocacy, and anti-stigma programs across the world.
The man himself commented on the huge milestone, saying:
"After 20 years of doing this work, I know that the only way to fight against AIDS is by helping everyone in need, especially those living at the margins of society.I’m so grateful to all our donors, whose generosity has allowed us to support dozens of innovative organizations that provide critical services to the most stigmatized populations around the world. These organizations are doing work that governments refuse to do, and helping people that governments refuse to help. I’m proud and honored to support them. And even though our foundation has reached this wonderful milestone, there is so much more work to be done."
While there still is so much more work to be done, Elton has been a powerful force in the fight against AIDS and HIV and we couldn't be more proud of him and his foundation.
The news of the foundation's feat has wonderful timing, considering his annual Oscar party to benefit AIDS/HIV research will be this weekend. Here's to many more years of fantastic work that will hopefully one day stop the spread of this horrible disease.
