Michelle Obama has always been one to motivate people to get up and get moving, and while her new Let's Move! Active Schools campaign is in full effect now — she got Nike to pledge $50 million to help boost fitness in school-age children.
And with budget cuts and money problems arising in schools, Michelle said there's no reason why physical fitness should not be pushed, she added:
“But just because it’s hard doesn’t mean we should stop trying. It means we should try harder. It means that…we all need to dig deeper and start getting even more creative. Quality physical education comes in all different forms and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. But it does take leadership.…That’s why Nike and all these other organizations today have stepped up.”
And to top off the Lets Move madness, president and chief executive officer of Nike, Mark Parker said:
“We must provide early, positive experiences for kids through play and sport.…We recognize there must be a greater sense of urgency to address this. We’re also pledging the engagement of our [corporate] family. I’m very optimistic about our ability to shape the future.”
Since the sports brand is investing so much monies, other organizations also stepped up to do their part. So far, Michelle was able to raise an extra $22 million and another $80 million from the U.S. Department of Education will be reorganized to provide more tools for schools that have needs.
The First Lady is so caught up in her campaign that she just wants everyone to move their bodies no matter what they eat, and we think she has a very good point!!
