oscar pistorius covers time magazine

So murdering someone leads to magazine covers now a days?!?

It's been over two weeks since Oscar Pistorius murdered his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, and while he was let go on a $112,000 bail — he's now covering Time's latest issue.

The paralympian was photographed by Pieter Hugo for a full length picture that shows off his prosthetic legs and toned body. And although we think this snap shot is AH-MAYZING, we're not impressed by the title: 'MAN SUPERMAN GUNMAN.'

Doesn't that just scream murderer?!?

In addition to his front, Oscar received a feature dubbed Pistorius And South Africa's Culture Of Violence, which tries to articulate that Blade Runner killed his girlfriend because violence in South Africa is far too common, and he was just protecting himself.

While it's apparent that no one will ever know what the Olympian with no legs was thinking when he shot and killed Reeva, we don't think that he should be getting praised. But hey, Time is known to stir up controversy, so a cover like this is pretty normal.

Ch-ch-check out Oscar's Time cover (above)!!

You ARE aware that Hitler was Time's man of the year in 1938, right?!

  3. 3

so now you're lowering yourself to branding a copywrited magazine cover.

  4. 4

I love how this country rewards bad behavior.

Read the article. It is about the violence and segregation that exists in South Africa. While it does give his background it mostly discusses the long standing class diffrences in post Apartheid Africa

This isn't the first time, TIME had the Columbine shooters on the cover, Hitler, Andrew Cunanan, James Holmes and Susan Smith.
Also, you complain that it leads to magazine covers, yet you put him on your website and featured him as the top story more than once. You also put Casey Anthony up and plastered James Holmes many times. On Perezitos you post stories and photos about parent's who killed their babies.

OMW has he be tried and found guilty already..what did I miss? I believe a good achievement published is worthy, as that of a bad when proven!

I don't think it's an issue. TIME deals with current affairs, and this is a current affair that is being watched on a global scale. It's not like they're presenting him as a hero - they clearly state his murder and use it as a means to discuss gun culture - again, an issue very forefront in world media.

If it were a case of presenting him with celebrity, I would disagree. But this is no different to the case making front page in a newspaper.

Like I said; TIME is a analytical news outlet, and this is news.

Re: sick_girl – To be fair it's not like TIME was claiming these people were heroes. It's a news outlet, just like a newspaper, but there isn't an issue when stuff like this makes front page of the New York Times or anything.

Also, Hitler was on TIME before the war.

I still like him even though he did something bad

Why are you saying he "murdered" his girlfriend if that hasn't even been proved yet? Which judge has decided on a verdict of murder? Last I heard there has been no trial yet. No factual evidence has been presented to 100% refute Oscar's claim that it was a tragic accident. Or are you so ignorant that you don't know the legal definition of what qualifies as murder? Please check your facts first. Just like when you should have checked your facts when you reported the girlfriend was pregnant, when that was refuted multiple times. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

    17

Let me clarify: He has admitted to killing her by mistake, which is not the same as murder. Murder is when you intentionally take a life. He may or may not have intentionally killed her. There has been no verdict and no facts to prove murder at this point. So stop acting as if you were there that night and saw what happened.

Re: Sara P. – You don't fire four shots at a closed door without knowing exactly what is behind it. He found his gun under the bed even though it was "pitch black" but he couldn't say "Reeva, is that you in there" or wake her up and move her to safety. It would have only taken a second. The fact that you think he didn't do it on purpose makes you look like a fucking moron.

Re: Crissy – Hmmm… So I'm guessing you're the judge with all the evidence for or against laid out before you? Like I said before, wait until after the trial to make your judgements. I'm not saying he's innocent or guilty, just that we do not have all the information (forensic results, etc) and a verdict has not been reached. Why he shot at the door four times is a matter of opinion at this point. Please distinguish between opinions and facts. There is no proof at this point that he knew she was behind the door and that he wanted to kill her. His version could very well be the truth. Innocent till PROVEN guilty. It's common logic.

calling him a superman when he's accused of murdering his (maybe pregnant) girlfriend is disgusting.

As someone who has lived in South Africa my whole life, i have never been subject to crime. It's so sad how people feel the need to hilight anything bad on our country, which actually happens to be incredibly beautiful and full of friendly people of all races.

The article was poorly researched. I've lived in SA my whole life. It is overly negative, sensationalist nonsense. Bizarre theories trying link distant history with current behaviour. The graph claiming that White South African's have sustained greater income growth is just not true - we have had affirmative action for years. The black share of income has grown to the point where the black middle class is now much larger. To add - I see they have an image of a security guard with a machine gun outside of a residential suburb. That's ridiculous - I've never seen it myself - was that staged?
