Hockey is a brutal sport, and we hope that players know what they're getting into when they decide to suit up.
During a playoff game, Ronny Keller, a Swiss ice hockey player, was injured so badly that he has been left paralyzed — permanently. The damage to his fourth thoracic vertebra is not reversible.
He hit the boards headfirst when checked — all of which happened in overtime of a second-tier playoff match against Langenthal on Tuesday. Had the match not gone longer due to overtime, this wouldn't have happened!
We hope this is something that moves the sport to make things a little safer for their players!
