We're pretty sure there isn't a more decent human being in Hollywood than Michael J. Fox.
Everyone was heartbroken with his Parkinson's diagnosis years ago when he announced it, because it wasn't actually a very publicized disease before he got it. We all reacted like it was a death sentence and that it was the saddest thing ever.
We were wrong!
Michael is not only thriving and surviving, but he helps fund Parkinson's research, all the while never really disappearing from the public eye! He has stayed humble about it, and now we're finding out that he even laughs about it, as he doesn't ever want the disease to define him!
Here's what he says about golf:
”People say, 'Stay still over the ball.' I'm, like, 'Yeah, screw you.' When I start pouring cereal, I don't know what's going to happen. The next thing I know, I'm spraying All-Bran all over the kitchen.”
Still, he DOES struggle. It's not something he can completely control:
”It's like your gyroscope is off. I can be shaky. I can be slow. I can wake up with [my feet shuffling involuntarily], and I'll say, 'This is going to be a struggle today.'
”There's an idea I came across a few years ago that I love … My happiness grows in direct proportion [to] my acceptance and in inverse proportion to my expectations. That's the key for me. If I can accept the truth of, 'This is what I'm facing — not what I can expect, but what I am experiencing now', then I have all this freedom to do other things.”
We love how you've decided to carry yourself and live your life, Michael. We love your demeanor regardless of what has happened, and we're thankful you're still out there making us laugh and inspiring us from day to day!
