Boston Marathon Tragedy: 3 Confirmed Dead & 154 Injured

The aftermath of the Boston Marathon tragedy is far from pretty.

Reports are now confirming a total of 3 people dead, which includes an 8-year-old boy, and over 150 people hospitalized with at least 17 in critical condition and 41 in serious condition. At least eight of the wounded individuals are children.

Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Albert Pendleton, who was helping out at the race's medical tent said that the tragedy was "basically like the bomb took out he legs of everybody. It was horrific," and considering that ball bearings were removed from wounded patients, a terrorism export is suggesting that the bombs were created to explode before they reached their target.

However, Dr. Ron Walls of Brigham and Women's Hospital, which had taken in 31 patients said that the debris found in patients did not look like they were from ball bearings.

Walls noted:

"Everything we saw was sort of ordinary ambient material that could have been propelled by the blast but was not added to the device. It was not the kind of things that would be added to a device to make it more injurious than it otherwise would be."

And while some patients were suffering wounds, others at the Massachusetts General Hospital had injuries that would require "serial operations," others needed to have legs amputated and some lower injuries involved blood vessels, bone and tissue.

So far, investigators don't know exactly why the explosions went down, but authorities believe that this was an act of terrorism. The tragedy is being linked to a Saudi Arabian man who is currently in the U.S. on a student visa, but sources are saying that they can't pin point anyone yet — especially because nothing was found in the man's apartment that was linked to bombings.

Although there's no one in custody, President Barack Obama said on Monday that whoever did this would "feel the feel weight of justice," and we hope he means that because we're in such distress over this unfortunate occurrence.

Our hearts and prayers are with the people of Boston.
