And he deserves to get whatever else is coming to him!
Earlier this week, we reported that a Utah teen punched longtime ref, Ricardo Portillo in the face after he issued him a yellow card, which unfortunately led to his death, and now that justice has to do it's thing, the teenager was charged with homicide by assault.
According to the Salt Lake County District Attorney, Sim Gill, the 17-year-old will be tried as an adult, which makes sense because what he did was awful!!
The teen has been spending time in juvenile detention since April 27, which is when the horrifying event went down, and taking into mind that a homicide by assault charge is not as serrrrious as manslaughter, he can still face up to five years in prison.
On another note, Portillo's funeral services are taking place today, and after the ceremony is over, the late ref's remains are set to be shipped off to his hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico.
It's sad that Ricardo's life had to end this way. No one should ever be put in danger for just doing their job!!
Our condolences go out to Portillo's family and friends.
May he rest in peace.
