Richard Swanson had a goal, and that goal was to dribble a soccer ball from Seattle all the way to Brazil, and do it in time for the 2014 World Cup! Easy, right? Just do a little bit at a time?
Maybe that should have been the case, but we're sad to report that Richard has died after being struck by a pickup truck while walking south on the Highway 101 in Oregon. The 10,000 mile trip had basically just begun — just on May 1st.
He was doing it to promote One World Futbol, which donates soccer balls to developing countries. Swanson himself was just a private investigator looking for an adventure while between jobs — who happened to be an avid runner, and LOVED soccer.
He felt it was his destiny.
The driver of the pickup truck has NOT been charged with his death.
Our hearts go out to his friends and family — we wish he could have completed his journey!
