This National Anthem Flub Is Brutal! We Wish Someone Helped Her!

Why didn't anyone step up to help this poor girl?? The whole crowd had to do something near the end, after an agonizing few minutes!!

A lot of people give singers flak when they mess up the national anthem, knowing that everyone's been singing it for years (and still, this woman might be Canadian, we're not positive!) — but guess what?? Just because you've known it since you were a kid doesn't mean that you've been singing it in front of thousands of people staring at you since you were a kid!!

We TOTALLY feel for this girl during the Memorial Cup Halifax vs Portland match, where she flubbed the anthem to the point of making everyone cringe (and some awful people laughed!) — but we can't blame her at all!

Keep your head up and learn from your mistakes! Next time might be better, and we hope you DO get a next time!

Her name is Alexis Normand and she's Canadian. In her defense, tons of high profile Americans have messed up the words to this song (Christina Aguilera, Michael Bolton, etc), so if Americans can't get their own national anthem right, it's not surprising that a foreigner might mess it up too.

She's Canadian. If you got all your facts straight, she thought that she only had to sing the Canadian national anthem. Right before her performance she was told that she had to sing both national anthems.

Ever heard of anxiety or panic disorder? I have, because I have it. Who's to say she wasn't in the middle of having a panic attack? If you battle true panic disorder, it can make you feel like your dieing. Please have some empathy for this woman as I feel that this is what was happening to her in the middle of the performance.

I mean she's obviously Canadian, she sung French beautifully and knew all of the Canada anthem. I just don't understand why, after all these years of people screwing it up, they don't have the words posted while they sing.

Re: TheLookingGlass – Ya and I'm sure Americans know any other National Anthem word-for-word.

If you feel so bad why did you post the video perpetuating her embarrassment?

As she's Canadian, and this being in Canada, she wouldn't have 'been singing it (U.S. anthem) since she was a kid.' The crowd that helped her with the words to the U.S. anthem were actually all Canadian. Hockey fans know both anthems probably by osmosis. I think she got an invite to Letterman for this bit of infamy.

She had no clue that she had to sing anything other than the Canadian anthem. When she showed up she was informed.

she just start making up words, lol, the Americans there should have sang it, that would have been cool.

Just like to point out MANY American singers have messed up the national anthem, and MANY American singers have also messed up the Canadian national anthem!

How completely scary for her at that moment! I wish someone would have jumped up and stood next to her and sang it with her since there are PLENTY of people standing ont he sidelines. I cant sing for shiat but I have no shame and would have at least done that for her. Canadian or not she was trying her hardest to sing OUR anthem in OUR honor. She did fare well under intense pressure and still tried to make it through. Kudo's to her for that.
