To Indy or to stock car? That is the question!
Danica Patrick WANTED to try and do the 'double' this year, which would have been both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600, but that didn't happen. In fact, she decide that she needed to keep to her stock car career instead of trying to split her time between the two types of races. She is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie, after all!
Here's what she said:
"I really tried hard to do (the 500) this year — we all did on my (management) team. Ultimately, it came down to the fact that it wasn't going to help me here (in NASCAR), and this is what I've chosen to do now. It's not fair to take away from it."
She was in the IndyCar game for SEVEN seasons before going to NASCAR, but wanted to keep the 500 as an option. It's just too bad it's looking more and more like IndyCar is being left behind:
"I need to focus here. As the years go by, (and) more and more distance goes between my full-time IndyCar career and now, it gets less and less likely. While Indy can kind of make a driver, I feel like it is part of what made me who I am today. So it did those things for me."
That sounds a lot like a goodbye to us!
While we're sure the sport is sad to see her go without even a small return, we bet she'll find her NASCAR home juuuuust fine!
