After being hospitalized due to a serious lung infection, Nelson Mandela is reportedly showing positive signs of recovering!
The 94 year-old has spent the last five days at the Mediclinic heart hospital in Pretoria where he was in serious but stable condition, but current South African president Jacob Zuma says things are finally looking up!
"I'm happy to report that Madiba is responding better to treatment from this morning. We are very happy with the progress that he is now making, following a difficult last few days."
That's DEFINITELY good to hear!
He went on to thank supporters for their positive messages and asked that everyone continues to keep Mandela in their thoughts:
"We urge South Africans and the international community to continue to keep President Mandela and the medical team in their thoughts and prayers."
Things have certainly lightened up in the hospital, and it sounds like the entire country of South Africa is resting a little easier now, too!
Reporter Annika Larsen says:
"I think I've just heard South Africa breathe a huge sigh of relief … That's probably the best news we've heard on Nelson Mandela in the last five days."
While the updates are certainly positive, President Zuma and doctors are remaining cuatiously optimistic until Mandela makes a full recovery.
We continue to keep him in our thoughts and hopefully he pulls through soon!
