serena williams meets with steubenville rape victim family to apologize for remarks

Serena Williams has been in a bit of hot water lately after making some horribly offensive comments about the Steubenville rape victim, but now she's doing everything she can to try and make things right!

According to an interview she did with Rolling Stone, the tennis superstar put some of the blame on the young girl and said "she shouldn't have put herself in that position."

Serena went on to release an apology (sort of), and now she's taken it a step further by meeting face to face with the young girl's family, and according to their attorney Bob Fitzsimmons, things went REALLY well!

He says:

"Serena was very nice, very sincere and it was a very well-received conversation among two women and a young lady."

He went on to say:

"We are fans of Serena and will continue rooting for many more championships but more importantly watching her advance the cause of rape victims who are never to blame."

While Serena may not have written up the most sincere apology, we're glad she was able to work things out with the family face to face!

Hopefully now she can put this ugly incident behind her and focus on Wimbeldon, and maybe next time she'll be a little more careful about what she says in front of a reporter! LOLz!

That family doesn't have enough to deal w/, now they've got to help this idiot rehab her image so she doesn't lose any endorsements. Selfish, stupid brat HAD to give her opinion on something she doesn't know anything about. When asked about it, all she had to say is that she didn't know enough about the case to comment. The most pathetic part of this is that her sister was killed by senseless violence so she should know better.

By is she apologizing?! She's right the girl put herself in that position, she had no business even touching alcohol at 16

I do understand what Serena meant though in that many rapes occur when the girls have been very drunk and therefore unable to think clearly about putting themselves in a dangerous position where they can be taken advantage of.

beandra: Yes, the girl made a mistake. We're all guilty of terrible decisions at times - especially as teenagers. But your comment suggests that because she was doing something she shouldn't, that she DESERVED to be raped. By your definition, it seems she learned her lesson.

who gives a shit what a fucking tennis player thinks???
any tennis player, any ball player, any sportsperson…they're not commentators…who cares what they think…they should just stfu.

There is no part of what she said that was wrong. The girl got intentionally blotto drunk and wouldn't listen to her girlfriends and went off with a bunch of guys. Just getting blotto drunk is enough to give up responsibility. She should have known better. She wanted the attention of these boys, and did she ever get it. Nobody deserves to be raped but there are things we can and should do to prevent something like this from happening. But she didn't do any of them.

Nobody deserves to be raped. Period. End of story. If you're going to put qualifiers before or after that, STFU. And of course, when people do this victim-shaming, they change the facts to suit their premade conclusions. Read the whole story about what happened in Steubenville, and you'll realize that the victim was targeted and quite possibly drugged before she appeared to be– as some so grossly characterize– "blotto."

Lol, it's not victim blaming to say she should have taken precautions to not put herself in that position.
She wasn't raped walking home from a bus station after work. She was raped after drinking too much and going out with a bunch of guys. She doesn't deserve to be raped but she isn't blameless. It could have been prevented. period. anyone acting like she's totally innocent is an idiot.
