Paula Deen's Misguided Fans Defend Her, REGARDLESS Of Racism!

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooTV NewsFoodPaula Deen

paula deen fans defend n word racist deposition admission admit racial jokes legal matters

Paula Deen has admitted to using the N-word because 'of course' she has.

Sure, she's kind of apologized a few times on video, after first using the excuse of it being a 'different time' back then, and even The Food Network has fired her, choosing not to renew her contract.

Now, her fan base (Butter Enthustiasts?) are rabidly defending her, including defending her use of awful racial epithets and wanting black employees to dress up like slaves for a wedding. We can't help but think their defense of her is waaaay misguided!

Numerous Facebook pages supporting Deen have been calling for a boycott of the Food Network, and several have even gotten thousands of likes!

One person, missing the point completely, wrote:

“Show me an adult person who has not said the N word in his life, black or white. You without sin cast the first stone."

On the Food Network's official Facebook page, there is post of a recipe for zucchini casserole that has now become a shizz-show of people complaining about her firing! Here's a taste of what was said:

“It is shameful the way you are treating Paula Deen.”

“I hope this move hits you hard in your pockets.”

Give us a break! We're FLOORED that these people are bold enough to do this, especially after the lack of respect Paula has showed her viewers in the past. ('Here's two years worth of diabetes-causing recipes, even though I know I have diabetes!')

Luckily, there's an analyst out there that totally understands what's going on. Here's what Steve Adubato said on the TODAY show about it:

“I’m not surprised that Paula Deen’s fans have reached out for her, but the Food Network is not that concerned about a few thousand people on social media. They have to be concerned about sponsors.”

…And the other decent humans that watch their programming — and especially those of color that have to deal with unfounded racism on the constant!

It's about doing the right thing, not about how much you love butter! LOLz!

Perez, this woman is in her 60's and grew up in the south. If she was asked if she ever used the N word in her life, and she said no she never had, she would be perjuring herself. I'm sorry. It is what it is. Any southern white person in their 60's and 70's has used that word at some point in their life. Get over it and accept it. The fact that her former employee's attorney had to play the freaking race card in order to try to score points against Deen just shows how weak the case that they had against Deen actually was. When in doubt, play the race card!!

Really, Perez? You called someone a f*g and then proceeded to defend yourself for using the word! So does that make anyone who defends you someone who supports homophobia? Does that make you homophobic as well? How would you like it if everything you worked for was taken away from you because of that night? Hm?

You are such a hypocrite dude. What about the countless times you drew obscene gestures on celeb faces, or the bullying you did for 10 years. Wake up! everyone makes a mistakes, she was asked a question and answered it. I don't condone the behavior but I honestly believe she's a good person. She's in her 70's and has almost finish this life, give her a break. #truth

Said the guy who made fun of others children, call people "trannies", and made fun of others just to advance in his career. For him to scrutinize her past when his is just as bad is definitely hypocritical.

perez, you are twisting thing to YOUR Point of view, to fit YOUR agenda. Get all of the facts before you crucify someone. Remember, you are one step away from being brought down as well, and Karma is a heavy bitch.

Not to mention, Food Network rehired Robert Irvine, a man who lied about his military service AND working for the Royal family but that is ok. Lil Wayne stomps the American flag and that's fine, didn't lose a sponsor. So yes, tell me how evil Paula Deen is.

As much as I dislike Paula Deen i'm going to have to say that this whole thing was blown way out of proportion. I don't think we're getting the whole story on why this blew up so fast.

I find it ironic that you call her fans misguided and you're being so judgmental. It seems that it's okay for black people to call each other N___er but not for others. Perhaps they need to set a better example by completely abolishing that word and then the world could be held accountable. May I remind you that a scant couple of years ago, some of the names you've called people were equally odious and reprehensible. You have damaged a lot of people with your cruel jokes, innuendoes and obscene over-draws on their photographs. So in my opinion, you could perhaps help her overcome this problem, just as you promised and learned to deliver a cleaner and kinder reporting style.

Seriously Perez can you be more dilusuonal? Seriously can you? Lets all forget that you yelled f*g at someone, pretend that didn't happen. Is that what you want? Look I'm not defending what she did but dear god she's an old southern white woman so she's said it and has made a few maybe half assed apologies lets all move on. You on the other hand are a gay man and should be held responsible for the stupidity that came out of your mouth towards your own damn community. Own up to your own mistakes and stop pointing at everyone else it's pathetic.

  12. 12

If anyone is misguided it is you Perez. As a son of the south I am proud to have Paula Dean as a southerner. I now reside in New York and I have heard the N word more in the past 6 years than I ever did in the south. It takes a big person to admit they have made a mistake and grow from it. She has given a heartfelt apology, leave her alone.

  14. 14

Perez, I'm really disturbed by the hatred you are posting towards Paula. It seems you're reverting to your old bullying ways, I thought you had put that behind you?
I'm a gay man myself so I greatly dislike any kind of prejudice or racism. But you really need to put this situation into perspective.
Paula is of an older generation AND from the south. My own grandfather was the same and unfortunately the "N" word was part of his vocabulary nearly every day.
I'm not condoning the use of the word at all, I despise it.
But Paula DID apologize and explained the situation. She COULD have lied about it. Instead she told the truth KNOWING the backlash that would follow. Give her some credit and end your witch hunt.
Now let's talk about the issue you seem to have with her diabetes. I am diabetic myself and no one is to blame for that but ME! No one force fed me. Paula is not responsible for any one else's eating habits nor are her recipes. She was also not obligated in any way to even admit she was diabetic! How is that anyones business but her own? Another reason she deserves some credit! You yourself could have a myriad of STD's, that's your business and you are not obligated to share.
Stop spreading hate. I really thought you were better than this. :(

This woman is being punished for being honest about something she said decades ago after being robbed at gunpoint but you call someone a f*g because your just mad at them and thats ok? So Perez, while you may have never used the N word, can you honestly say that you've NEVER called someone a (excuse me) spic, dago, kike, chink, honky, cracker, etc, etc. The point is that at some point in their life, EVERYONE has used some type of racial slur. Even in the black community, there are discussions about light-skinned vs. dark-skinned. So whether Paula AND you were misinformed, uneducated, a product of your times and upbringing, etc, it happens every day. Not that I'm defending it, but to continue prosecuting Paula to this extent is beyond ridiculous. And let's not forget that Paula's last admission of using the N word came in 1986 when a bank robber held a gun to her head. Let's have someone legitimately pull a gun on you, have you react out of fear, anger, or both, and find out if you don't describe that person in non-PC terms. Yet God forbid if you later honestly answer an attorney's question about that experience.

I'm not misguided. I forgive her. Do you all forgive rappers that use offensive racial slur continuously? They don't apologize for it. They also treat woman like whores in their video, stomp on our American flag and dog America in the same breath. I'm not misguide for forgiving someone. You're a pathetic piece of shit. The only "misguided" person in this situation is YOU, homo. You're a hypocrite, a bully, and an idiot.

If you think racism isn't as prevalent today as it was 50 years ago, you're living in a dream world. People are just as racist today as they were back then, the only differnce is now they are smart enough to keep it to themselves. Just because someone doesn't say the N-word doesn't mean they still aren't thinking it. That gay guy who thinks everyone in the office accepts him? Not all of them do, those that don't just know better than to say anything because they know they will be the ones to get fired. Wake up! At least Paula Deen was honest about it.

  42. 42

I certainly do not have all the details about Paula Deen but our country is sadly getting out of control when we persecute each other for long ago offenses. Does she use the word now, daily, all the time? I made many mistakes, 5 years ago, 10 years ago, hell, yesterday. Words, I wish I didn't use in anger but I hope that people don't persecute me forever over moments of wrong decisions or say I am a horrible person. It is how I live day in and day out. A legacy, my overall actions that should count. Funny, how people we look up to, have lived among the sinners and preached forgiveness, OH WAIT we no longer look up to those kind of people, we now look up to the almighty dollar and celebrities, so we have kind of lost our way and now we seem to be on huge witch hunts and no longer look to heal our country but continue to divide it. We reap what we sew and you are taking it all the way to the bank, you lucky dog :)

Don't get me wrong, that was just plain dumb she publicly admitted that. Also what about PSY's lyrics from his song "Dear America" when he referred to KILLING americans?! HE then performed at the ball drop this past NYE… really awesome what our media decides to follow in the news regarding the faults of celebrities. Does the media really believe that supporting these people is more important than letting our nation know whats really RIGHT?

Though I do not agree with the use of the word, she was woman enough to admit the use of the "N" word in the past. She could have lied, like many celebrities do, but she choose to take the high route and tell the truth. She should get credit for being open and honest. Sounds to me like a job..
I guess the hundred of thousand restaurants throughout our fine country do not hire based on ethnicity, do not tell employees what they need to where, and in some cases do not expect a "theme" to be represented. why limit to restaurants. Lets face it, we are a country where anyone, can be referred to as a racist, however one should really look hard before accusing..
    For example..
Scotsman, an Englishman and an Irishman walk into a bar….
This, while variant of a common joke, could be considered a racist joke..
However… Why does our society frown on the same joke as…
A China man, Black man and a White man walked into a bar…
How is a modern day African American oppressed??
Further more, why is it African American.. Face it.. He/She is an American..
    I am an American..
    Back to the "waiter job"..
Regardless of its intent, serious or a Joke.. People.. Grow some skin (thicker).
Realize not everything said is intended to have racist overtones..

You make your living gossiping abuot people. You rape their privacy. You excuse it apparently thinking that hurting people for money to entertain people is ok. Perez Hilton hurts people for fun.. naaaa he does it for money. Have you EVER called a woman a bitch? Have you ever called someone something with full knowledge that you were being disrespectful. Racest use words to demean people, or even just as a joke. You demean people for money. You are in no position to criticize. People like you encourage people like you.. face it.. if you went all nice, never violated peoples privacy, never announced anything that you didnt have full permission to do.. you would be very boring and would not make living . So .. what part of your background makes that ok… and whats different about a southern woman her age using words that in her generation were just the norm. Im a southerner. Her words were racest. But so are Kanye West. Perhaps the point can be made that if the word is so offensive… lets fire the black actors who are bad role models for all children that use the n word.. I mean.. raceism is bad.. If a white person can be used for throwing the word around.. so can a black person. Raceism not only hurts the person being discriminated against.. it hurts the ones that are trained that its ok.. So I say.. in true equality.. fire black actors and actresses that refer to black counterparts as nig___ Its only fair.

So how could you fault her answering the question that was asked of her and just remember on thing people who live in houses should never ever throw stone I also feel that the Foodnetwork has turned racism. Why did you take off Aaron Cargo Jr., The Neely and you don't even show reruns of their show just so you no it you have lost a fan. By the way because of duff I when to The Illinos Institute of Arts at Chicago and received my AA in Culinary Arts something good did come out of watching your network, I'll be watching the cook channel more now. She never said the N word on the show just remember that.

I'm curious why Perez has not responded to all the backlash he's gotten over this? I wonder, maybe he's afraid no one would accept HIS apology?

Re: PHARO – Then this makes you one sick fella ! I do not see what's right with tolorating this kind of "BS". Not everyone uses the N word, so get your facts straight before posting and speaking for others ! Dang… you people need to really get a life!

  67. 67

I remember way back when Perez used to totally hate Jared Leto and would post all kinds of negativity against him. Now suddenly these days he practically worships him.
Perez obviously disliked Paula before all this and he's playing the racism card and using his venue to try and discredit her. This is nothing but a personal attack and has NOTHING to do with racism.
    It's all about hate.

This has been taken way to overboard. Im sure everybody in some point in time has used that word. People really need to be reminded of what the definition of that word really is. It can be anyone despite of their race. But its ok for everyone else to use the word & include it in music & have it publicized. Of course it is because they are not Caucasian. Double standard. Get off the gas already & pump the brakes.

I would like to comment on the diabetes thing. I dont understand why either of these situations got blown out of such proportion. If you watch Paula's show and see what she puts in her recepies then OF COURSE that would lead you to believe that MAYBE her food isnt that great for people to eat, especially on a regular basis. She obviously ate those butter, fattening types of food on a regular basis and so she became overweight and obtained diabetes. I don't understand why people don't understand that…. I know this has nothing to do with the racism situation but Im tired of people blaming Paula for not saying anything about her diabetes. Its common sense that those types of food can give people diabetes or any other type of condition that fatty foods affect

I think a lot of these comments are ridiculous to say the least. Does everyone slip up from time to time yes. Do we all have our moments that we are not proud of yes, but to defend a woman that openly feels like the days of black servitude were happier days and she wants to relive those moments is what is upsetting and disturbing and being overlooked by so many people. And the people that are defedning her actions are the reason why the world is like it is. Of course people that dont experience the feelings of discrimination and racism (yes contrary to your beliefs there is still racism in America) would say get over it or it is in the past but the truth is it is NOT in the past and this situation proves it. Your excuses of her being in her 60's or 70's should also be dismissed; Does a rapist or pedophile get excused if they grew up seeing those things done to another person? The example may be extreme to some but it is basically the same thing. Excuse her of her racist remarks because she grew up in the south. She has a choice and she made it. I have no sympathy…hopefully she will learn the error of her ways and move forward as a prson that has grown from this experience.

Re: Nise59 – Its not just about her using the N word it is about ALL of the statements made. It os mighty funny (not really) that people are only focusing on her using the n word. Honestly I dont hold it to that much weight, but what I will say offended me is the fact that she wants a "Traditional plantation wedding" withn "all black servers" why isnt anyone saying anyhting about that? And the fact that no one is saying ANYTHING regarding this lets me know that there are probably more people that feel this way as well and would like to see segregation again. Furthermore, the case is about her and her families racist remarks and how it affected one of her employees so OF COURSE the race card and questions were asked. DUH!

Re: TUFFYT – that's so true, I think that Perez is been such a hypocrite right now…. I don't condemn racist behavior but if Paula is getting fire by the food network, does that mean that all the rappers that use the N word or other racist remarks should also be fire….

Perez, I find it incredibly hypocritical for you to continue to berate Deen after she has apologized; you used to bully, and maliciously criticize folks for years, and in doing so you created a brand and life for yourself and your new son - you eventually saw the error of your ways, and have become a happier, healthier person in doing so. She admitted to the mistakes in a sworn deposition for a court of law, not a fluff piece for US Weekly. Politically incorrect, yes - Bigot, no!

Furthermore, fans of Deen aren't 'misguided' - you're not a fan, we get it! But for many she reminds us of our mothers, grandmothers, aunts and friends from years gone by. Is she perfect? No. Is she the moral compass of the Universe? No. She is a southern cook with a personality that has endeared her to many and made her a household name. Holding her singularly responsible for Diabetes and Obesity because of her recipes is like hold Madonna singularly responsible for STDs because she embraced taking control of and exploring human sexuality.

Grown folks make grown decisions. At no point in time, in any interview, cookbook, episode or personal appearance has Deen encouraged folks to eat butter by the fistful at every meal, seven days a week. It is soul-food, not sole food!

Leave Paula Deen alone. She admitted to making a mistake. It comes from her age and heritage. Shit she loves Oprah. Everyone has said things they know better later in life. She a sweet down to earth lady. How many black people called white people honkeies or crackers? Do we go insane? Chill the Hell out and move on people…….

I'm actually not a Paula Deen fan.
I feel she was sorry for what she said, I feel she's a kind of simple woman. I feel this was a good kick in the pants and hopefully she'll learn from it.
All this PC stuff has got to stop. Yes…watch your words and try to make them kind, but bullying people into doing it?
    I don't feel she's a racist. Not a burn a cross type.
    Everyone has prejudices. Even you.
Look at your article…pretty much calling all Paula Deen fans "fat."
Everyone is learning everyday. We are never going to accept everyone everywhere, now are we?
Gay people are finally getting more acceptance, but will it ever be universal? Probably not. But tolerant…of course…
Blacks, same thing…much more acceptance, but there's always going to be people you just never win over, regardless.
My kids are biracial…I've heard it all, but for the most part, in a small town…my kids became quite popular. Do we forgive the ones, like Paula Deen, who made racists remarks? Of course. As long as they've learned.
So stop making it such a big deal. A woman has lost her job over it. She apologized.
It was just blown so far out of proportion,
    People are people.
Hs anyone ever not made a mistake?
Bet…for a minute, you judged me before you read about my kids…
    Didn't you?

For heavens sake, the lady claimed she made the comment over 20 years ago!! How many of you Deen haters have never cursed or used derogatory language? Certainly, not Perez - No, of course not (yeah, right). We have current movies and rap stars routinely using the N-word; but with no repercussions. She said something 20 years ago that she now regrets and she's being fired for that mistake? Heck, why not fire everyone in the entertainment industry since none are exactly angels - including Perez!

Maybe its' Paula Deen's brother that is the racist. That's what it sounds like it if you read around a bit. Paula put her brother in her business and she probably knew he said stuff like that so she may have to pay for that or she is paying for that.
