It's been a bizarre year at Wimbledon as we've already seen TONS of shocking eliminations as players have been struggling to stay on their feet on the slippery grass courts, and Maria Sharapova is NOT happy about it!
The Russian tennis beauty ended up on her tush three separate times during her stunning loss to Michelle Larcher De Brito and even had to take a time out after buckling her knee!
Maria put a lot of the blame on the poor condition of the grass courts, calling them "dangerous," and she might have a point considering a record SEVEN players dropped out of the tournament in a single day due to injuries!
Wimbledon has infamously been played on grass courts for decades, but the number of players struggling to keep their footing has been unusually high this year.
It has been pointed out that head groundsman Neil Stubley is in charge of courts at the All England Club for the very first time and had less time prepare than previous years due to the Olympics last year, but officials insist that the conditions or the grass are identical to last year's tournament.
Whether it's the grass or the player's shoes, it hardly seems like a coincidence that so many competitors are having issues, and unless something is done, we might continue to see injuries through the remainder of Wimbledon!
