Are you tired of not being able to help others by donating blood just because you're gay? Well someone is doing something about it so YOU can do something about it!
Ryan James Yezak, director of the upcoming Second Class Citizens, is organizing the first EVER nation-wide blood drive! He hopes it will raise awareness about the ban on MSM blood donors! It would be incredible if the FDA took notice of the pressure and lifted it — we need all the blood we can get!
Since 1977, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has denied gay and bisexual men from donating blood. On Friday, July 12th, the peaceful demonstration will be recorded and observed by Ryan for use in SCC — and the data will also be sent to the FDA!
Here's what Ryan has to say:
” … the ban is outdated, and as a result, countless otherwise eligible gay and bisexual men are unable to contribute to the nation’s blood supply and help save lives – Especially a time when blood shortages are increasingly common. Not only that, but the ban perpetuates negative stereotypes and stigma. Whether intentional or not, it is discrimination based on sexual orientation.”
We hear that!
The drive will start nationally from 9am PST to 5pm PST that Friday and will consist of eligible gay and bisexual male donors — aka MSM donors — showing up to get tested at a specified donation center in their respective city and then attempting to donate their blood.
Here's the kicker: as each donor gets rejected because of the archaic law, their test result will be collected, compiled, and taken to the FDA as a visual shove in the direction of realizing how much blood the gay community can give those in need on a national level.
It's time EVERYONE is able to help!
